Consulting & Training

We support healing and overall well-being through evidence-based therapy using Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. Services are offered to college students, adults, adolescents, families and couples. While all clients are welcome, we specialize in working with Black individuals and families, centering care in love, partnership, and cultural understanding so clients can truly thrive. Currently, we only offer therapy services in North Carolina.

Therapy

Dr. Washington provides consultation focused on kinship care families and child welfare; partnering with individuals, organizations, and professionals to strengthen programs, policy, and practice. 

She also delivers tailored training for practitioners and human service organizations. Dr. Washington has provided consulting and training for prominent clients such as Mathematica, Generations United, Casey Family Programs, Brookings Institution, National Association of Social Workers–NC, Family Focused Treatment Association.

Research

Dr. Washington is a nationally and internationally recognized researcher and scholar in the child welfare field. Her primary research focus centers on kinship care families, including grandparents and other relatives raising children. She has been Principle Investigator of multiple competitive research grants from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, the William Penn Foundation, and institutions within the University of North Carolina System. Her research is conducted in close partnership with other researchers, community organizations, and individuals who have engaged in kinship care, ensuring that the knowledge generated will help families and communities flourish.
